Newcastle, King County
A stainless steel liner run the whole length of a Newcastle flue is priced from $1,900. Height is the main driver of the final number, followed by the flue's shape and whatever has to be removed first. Every relining quote we write comes after a camera inspection, so the price rests on footage of your flue and not on an average.

The flues most likely to need a new liner in Newcastle sit in its older homes. Census estimates place about 18 percent of the city's housing before 1980, most of it from the 1960s and 1970s, the years when Newport Hills filled in after work began there in 1958. Where a fireplace of that period still has its original clay tiles, they have been through some sixty wet seasons. Newer houses are not exempt: an appliance swap can leave a sound flue the wrong size for what now vents into it.
Newcastle covers 4.2 square miles of ground that rarely lies flat. Its hazard annex places the city across a steep-sided valley with two drainage basins, and WeatherSpark's topography figures give 1,198 feet of elevation difference inside two miles. A house built on such a grade can have one more floor on its low side than on its street side.
For relining this shows up as footage. A fireplace on a lower floor can sit under thirty feet of flue or more, and liner is priced by length. The fall of the lot also governs how the coil of liner reaches the chimney top, and how much staging the crew needs. We measure both during the inspection so the quote already includes them.
Every chimney relining we do in Newcastle includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowA liner has one job, which is to keep heat and combustion gases inside the flue until they leave the roof. Cracked tiles, missing mortar between tile sections and gaps at offsets all break that containment. In a city where roughly 46 percent of households heat with utility gas, we also see the quiet version of the problem: a gas appliance venting cool, moist exhaust into an oversized masonry flue that was built for an open fire.
Roof moss holds water. Oregon State University Extension describes how it traps soil and debris and extends the time the surface beneath stays wet. On a chimney top, a mat of moss and fir needles around the cap does the same thing to the crown and to the first tile of the liner.
Newcastle's annex reports wind events that bring trees down every couple of years, and many homes sit beside dense woods. So a relining job here ends at the top: a cap with a screen that sheds litter, a crown surface cleaned off, and advice on which overhanging limb is feeding the problem.
Flue length, cross-section and every offset are taken from the camera run, then checked against the appliance's venting requirements.
The existing flue is swept, and tile that would snag the liner is broken out and removed from below.
The liner goes in from the top in one continuous length, insulated as its listing specifies, and is fixed to a new top plate.
The bottom connection is made, the cap fitted, and a second camera pass confirms a clean, continuous run.

Most single-flue jobs are finished in a day. Tall stacks on the downhill side of a house, or flues where a lot of tile has to come out, can run into a second day.
Ask the city for your address. In June 2026 the city replaced its permit portal with OpenGov, and none of the city pages we could read lists which chimney work requires a permit, so we do not state a rule here. We supply the product listing and drawings the permit desk asks for.
No. Filming the flue costs $99 plus tax, one chimney at a time, and the relining invoice is lowered by that figure after you accept the quote.
